Rapidshare Happy Hours
May 4, 2008 at 12:35 pm | In Technology and Software | 4 CommentsTags: rapidshare, Rapidshare Happy Hours
The main service I use to share files in Rapidshare . Despite its limitations - like the new Captcha and the annoying time limits - the majority of content I am interested in is to be found on their servers . With premium account one can download without the fear of any restrictions aside from the 5 GB per week one. But being a premium account holder is an expense which I am not always ready or willing to pay. Good alternative are the premium link generators - but more often then not they won`t function just when you need them to. When it comes to earning premium accounts via collectors points - I myself have been collecting mine in the past 7 months and am yet to make another 2000 - to reach the 10 000 requirement which will allow me to use the premium service for 30 days.

Few days ago I have noticed that while being a free user I was able to download as a premium one taking advantage of a special promotion called RapidShare Happy Hours - but when exactly were they was a mystery to me - until I discovered a post by SizzledCore in which the author explained that ” In happy hours, when ever RapidShare fees like their servers have enough spare bandwidth, they disable all the download tickets and captchas and makes it easier for free users to download.” - in his post he also provided an application which automatically monitors Rapidshare and notifies you when the Happy Hours are enabled.
Happy downloading !

KMPlayer

When few months ago I discovered this player I had no idea that it would became my favorite application for watching movies and video files. Even the excellent VLC player is no match to KMPlayer . One of the functions I love is the possibility to capture videos from movies or clips - which is an excellent tool if you want to cut out your favorite part of a movie or a concert. Also like VLC player - it can play incomplete video files - like the one you are downloading from emule or utorrent. But those are just my favorite features - to get the complete list go to its site ( link). This player never failed for me - and was great for subtitle synchronizations and time shits in the video files.
The new version of KMPlayer 293 1428 offered various improvements. I found a portable version in a torrent site and it proved to be working without a problem - I like it a lot as now I don`t have to install any codecs on my computer - but as they are build in the player I can watch all kind of files - including mp3 and mov ones - get it or you can get the latest installable version here.
YouTube

Chances are that you already know a way to download videos from YouTube. Now there are several thousand ways to download YouTube videos (link), and I wonder why doesn’t YouTube start offering that functionality on their website ( or even better allow you to get the original file as Veoh(link) does). Currently I am using the freeware Orbit Downloader (link) to get the flv files used by youtube , then once when I got them I use a software called Moyea FLV to Video Converter Pro (link) to batch convert all flv files to video ones which can be watched on my DVD playes . This routine saves me some time - batch downloading and batch converting does help. Its only that I wished there was a way to download all the videos uploaded or favored by a user without the need to attend to their urls - just using the user`s channel URL - so far I have no idea how this can be achieved. The many outside services such as VIXY (link) are nice - but they only allow one video at a time.
In case you want a good freeware to download videos YouTube Download&Convert will do the job for you (link)

Asus EEE PC

I just found out about this mini notebook - Asus EEE PC and I really like it a lot. I would even be satisfied with very cheap cell phone if I could manage to get this cool gadget. It is not too pricey either - I saw an offer for 240 Euro. The specifications are fine (link) - and I have read several reviews which only convinced me that the Asus EEE PC is the perfect teach toy. I could blog on that thing , watch movies, play games - and its so little - that I could have it everywhere with me ( I do own a notebook - 2 for that matter - but this is something different). Would be curious to hear your opinion on the Asus EEE PC - may be you even own one ?
Its too bad that I really can`t afford it now .
Moo - Moo

USB toys come in wild variety. I just saw a very fun plastic caw - which goes Moo-Moo when you press a button on it. Not only on your side - but someone special will get that Moo too. It is like an updated version of one ringer -when you wing to someone`s cell to remind him that you care and he rings back ( I have never done that and think that its pretty awkward ) . Check out the video advert for this toy :
Funny ?
I still prefer the Nabaztag Rabbits as they seem to have richer functionality .
Download all photos from a web site
December 15, 2007 at 5:47 am | In Technology and Software | 1 CommentTags: automation, picaloader, picture
I have been looking for an application that will allow me to download all photos that are placed at a web site - regardless of their type or protection ( usually Java script ) . There are many programs that can be configured to download an entire site - but until recently I was unable to find any program that can efficiently collect the image files. Yesterday I discovered Picaloader . It does just what its creators claim :
PicaLoader is an auto Picture Downloader - Software for auto search pictures, quickly
download pictures and convenient manage downloaded pictures.PicaLoader Picture Downloader is a fully automated, multithreaded, link-following,
picture-retrieving robot that will retrieve all the pictures you want from any part of the Internet.
The program can also manage the downloaded pictures with a built-in thumbnail browser. With the Advanced HTML Analyzing Engine, you can download any picture from the Internet,
even the pictures linked by JavaScript, VBScript and JScript. Pictures can be filtered by size,
color depth, definition, etc. with the High-powered, Pre-reading Picture Filter Engine.
I have tested it on several agency web sites - which offer a portfolio of their models - most of them had protection on the pictures . Having configured Picaloader to download only the high resolution photos I was able to quickly gather more than 500 pics in just 3 minutes - something which would have taken me hours otherwise. Picaloader comes as a shareware - but there is 30 days trial version which will allow you to get up to 500 photos from a web site.
